I have walked by this location many times thinking it was "just another franchise", but I'm so glad we gave this location a try! We had a wonderful server and a great time!
I am a huge fan of beer flights and the selection here really hit all the points for me. I love the rotating beer list, which not only gives more local breweries a chance but should also keep the menu interesting. I'll definitely return regularly just to see what's new.
The tacos are also fabulous. Our table tried both the chicken and the beef with rave reviews. It's just 3 small tacos per plate though, so keep that in mind if you're coming in crazy hungry. But this was perfect for us.
The ambience is really fun with new things to discover as you go about your meal. This location is very well designed. We were seated literally the first table to the door and we were never distracted by people coming or going and never felt a cold draft.
Overall, I'm really happy we tried this location and we will definitely be back! -

Super disappointed in my experience going to this restaurant. I went with my parents and husband on a beautiful night before going to an event in the area.
We arrived and didn't even have the option to sit outside. Then it took about 20 mins for our waitress to come take our drink order. Drinks came in a decent amount of time but then our waitress just disappeared!! We couldn't order anymore drinks or get an update on our food. Finally we went up to the front and asked if they would ask our waitress to come back so we could order our meals and another drink. She came back and was very friendly, didn't apologize but took our order and left. We waited 45 minutes and still had not heard from our waitress about our food or were checked on in anyway. Finally she came to our section again and I flagged her down. She said that the kitchen is really backed up and having a hard time keeping up. She said they were turning people down at the door so that the kitchen could catch up. We asked if there was any way we could get something small to snack on in the meantime and were thankfully brought some stale chips and salsa.
After waiting another 20 mins or so my mom decided to go find the manager because we could find our waitress once again. Just as my mom found the manager our food arrive.
My dad ordered the pad Thai - lukewarm, dry and looked like it had been sitting forever.
Mom ordered steak and fries - the steak was tiny, extremely overcooked and the fries were just thrown on the plate. No garnish nothing!
My husband ordered a seasonal burger and a poutine- it was cold, the poutine looked nice but was bland and because he has an allergy to Mayo they didn't put any sauce on the burger at all even though it was supposed to come with BBQ sauce.
I ordered a chicken sandwich and Mexican salad- the sauce on the chicken was gritty and way too much was put on and was cold. The salad looked like it and tasted like it had been sitting in a fridge all night but somehow warm. It didn't even taste like the dressing, all I could taste was onion.
So disappointed!!! The only good part about the evening was the customer service provided by the manager. She was great to talk to and very apologetic. We didn't ask for anything in return but she ended up comping our entire meal. I feel bad for that poor manager that has to deal with poor wait staff and a kitchen that can't handle a Friday night with a half full restaurant. -

Jack Astor's has really stepped up their game, at least at this location. The bar side has tons of great beer, shuffleboard table, and TV views. The dining side has this awesome two person booths (you read that correct) that are comfortable while intimate.
Food is great and the price is standard for the quantity and quality. On our visit we had great service!
I would definitely go back -

So I'm going to be honest, I'm not sure whether I should leave this review a 3 or 4 stars. Let me explain..this might be lengthy.
We decided to come to Jack Astor's on a Friday night the day they were lighting the tree at Landsdowne. So, we expected the surrounding places to be packed and made reservations. We didn't have to wait long to be seated despite there being a pretty large lineup at the door.
Once seated, we got our drink orders in and began deciding what we'd eat. Our drinks took some time, but it wasn't too bad of a wait. Again, we knew the place was jam packed, so we were prepared. We ordered our food and that's when it went downhill.
Let's just say, thank goodness Jack Astor's provides crayons at every table. My boyfriend and I were extremely hungry and had to wait over an HOUR for our food to arrive. Okay, it's a Friday and it's a night where the restaurant should have been expecting more people than usual due to the tree lighting. The couple next to us were waiting forever too and were visibly upset, because they were going to miss their movie. We were really hoping not to have to finish our drinks before the food came, but I was nearly done mine and it was hitting me on my empty stomach.
At about the 40-minute mark, we asked our waiter what was going on and he apologized saying that the dishes weren't going to be ready for another 10-15 Minutes and asked if we wanted to cancel... what?? Obviously we said no and decided to keep waiting. He was kind enough to offer us some tortilla chips while we waited, but those took forever as well and they came with a nice chipotle sauce and mayo...ew. Anyway, we devoured those very quickly. At about an hour, we couldn't hold it and finally asked someone passing by to see when our items would come out.
Finally our food came and honestly, it was delicious. We both ordered steaks. I had the Memphis and my bf had the bourbon. My steak was done perfectly and it tasted incredible, as did the sides. My bf felt the same about his.
So, this is where my dilemma is with the stars. Though the food was great, our waiter was really good...the wait-time was absurd. Our waiter finally told us that they had a few new holiday chefs come in, which resulted in a back-up of orders. Unfortunate and poor timing by management, but in no way our waiter's fault.
Therefore, I'm giving this place 4 stars for now, as I definitely think I'll be back for steaks and their amazing blue raspberry lemonade. However, I really hope I won't have to wait over an hour to receive my food next time. -

Now these guys make Chicken Tenders right and the garlic bread creation is mouth-watering. You could almost make an entire meal of ordering several rounds of the garlic loaf. The beer menu wasn't the biggest I've seen but there was a lot of variety and I really liked the idea of the rotating beer menu, not only because it gives some new options each time you visit but also because it supports a lot of local brewers. So glad I was convinced to go here today because finally I have a place to go before the movies or sporting events (at Lansdowne) where I can count on good food, drinks, and service.
